Happy New Year! As 2015 begins we are gearing up for vintage here at Oakvale. We’ve started picking our first grapes this week so it’s full steam ahead! The winery is spotless, all equipment checked, and we've tried to get as much sleep as possible before we start the 16-hour (or more) days to make you some more great wines to enjoy.
This is every winemaker’s favourite part of the year and I’m no exception. I’m particularly excited this year to be working with a new grape, Graciano. Graciano is a Spanish red wine grape that is grown primarily in Rioja. It’s characterized by its deep red colour, strong aroma, and ability to age well. Traditionally, it’s used in blends but I believe in honouring the integrity of the grape in its most authentic form. This showcases its best qualities so we will not be blending this lovely grape.
There will be many fun and interesting things happening at the winery over the next couple of months so we hope you find an opportunity to stop by and be a part of the action. You can also follow our facebook page, and instagram account for behind the scenes snapshots of all the vintage action.
