2014 Ablington Vineyard Semillon
The vineyard sits in the heart of Pokolbin, with the Semillon planted in grey sandy loam soils of an ancient river bed. Low yielding, unirrigated, 35 year old vines which consistently produce characters which made the variety world renowned.
The fruit was sourced exclusively from the small family run Ablington Vineyard, handpicked in the early hours of the 16th of January 2014. It was pressed straight to a mixture of concrete egg shaped amphora, very old french oak barrels and some small stainless steel tanks, the combination of fermenting vessels as well as the ferment using the native yeast of the vineyard, add texture and body to the wine not typical of 'traditional' Hunter Valley Semillon. The wine is a soft and fresh and very approachable even this young, a really interesting take on a Hunter Valley classic. Unfined the wine is an expression of the vineyard.
