This is the 2nd release of our Reserve Barrel Select Shiraz 2006, only being made in exceptional years and in very limited quantities from the best barrels of the vintage. It is a very forward, rich and robust style, which is not necessarily typical Hunter in style.
Barrel Select Shiraz is a wine ideal with food especially with Roast beef, favourite steak and sauce combo.
The Shiraz grapes were hand harvested from selected rows of vines that were bunch thinned down to 1.5 tonnes per acre (all in the name of quality enhancement). At the winery, they were crushed and de-stemmed, before transferral into open fermentation vessels where fermentation with an added yeast culture took place. Fermentation progressed with daily, manual plunging and temperature control. Pressing of the grapes took place after fermentation, with all wine being transferred into French and American oak barrels for over 17 months maturation. Bottling followed final filtration.

“…there's no shortage of dark cherry and berry fruit, pepper, Hunter earthiness and liberal, yet tasteful, vanilla oak… - a wine of strength but not heaviness. Very good - carries the understated power of this under-rated vintage”
