2013 Lustenberger Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
The Vineyard
The Lustenberger Vineyard, located at Murrumbateman in the Canberra wine region, grows world class Cabernet Sauvignon in a region better known for Shiraz; the Cabernet Sauvignon found in this region is truly a hidden gem. The vineyard, planted in volcanic, basalt/quartz soils, has an established reputation for producing bright aromatic and medium bodied Cabernet which is why I choose to produce a single site wine from this vineyard.
The Wine
Hand harvested on the 10th of April 2013 this wine was fermented in open pots using the native yeast of the vineyard which helps to add another dimension and greater complexity to the wine. We aged this beautiful Cabernet for 18 months on lees in a mixture of new and old French oak barriques. In order to better embrace the expression of the vineyard and showcase this wine’s more natural flavours, we chose not to fine or manipulate the final product resulting in a beautiful and natural Cabernet Sauvignon.
